Eidfjord Invests NOK 241 Million in the Wastewater System of the Future

Eidfjord Municipality has decided to procure a new wastewater treatment plant that will collect and treat wastewater from the entire Sysendalen area. The facility will be designed for a capacity of 5,000 PE, with a future expansion to 8,000 PE.

Oppsteg’s project manager has been contracted by the municipality in order to ensure optimal control of both progress and costs. The project schedule is particularly critical, as the County Governor has imposed a development moratorium across Sysendalen, resulting in a complete halt to residential and cabin construction until adequate wastewater treatment capacity is in place.

The plant is being planned and constructed for a service life exceeding 30 years. All technical solutions and equipment are therefore selected with long-term operation and reliability as key criteria. The greatest technical challenge is the extreme seasonal variation in load throughout the year.

On 26 October 2022, the European Commission presented a proposal for a revised Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive, and the new facility in Sysendalen will be designed to meet the stringent requirements set out in this proposal.

The total project budget, comprising six separate contracts, amounts to NOK 241 million.
